This five-story museum boasts an impressive collection of over 70 antique cars, including a number of vintage Soviet and Chinese models. There are quite a few interactive exhibits and special play areas with driving-related activities just for kids.
In March 2004, Beijing Auto Museum obtained the official approval of land acquisition. In April 2006, construction began. In December 2007, the main structure was completed. On April 17, 2008, it got The Reply Letter from the General Office of Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China on Approving Beijing Auto Museum in Importing Old Automobiles for Exhibition, whereby the issues about policy concerning permanent collection of exhibits were solved and this was the first case of its kind in China. On March 26, 2009, experts from the fields of automobile, cultural relics, and museums were organized to establish the Beijing Auto Museum Collection Appraisal Committee, setting up grading standards of auto collection and undertaking the responsibility of authenticating auto relics. In September 2010, it completed the research, development, production, and testing of all exhibited items. In December 2010, the items were all imported. By the end of 2010, the whole exhibition arrangement was finished.
