The concept of a museum dedicated to the works of Dr. Ing. H. c. Porsche AG (usually referred to as Porsche AG) was established in 2004. The Viennese architectural office Delugan Meissi Associated Architects was commissioned to design an iconic building to house the museum and construction began in October 2005. The museum was opened to the public in January 2009.
